Tristan Voorspuy
Tristan has led safaris in Africa since the early 1980's - it is no surprise that he has been recognised by The Times as one of the top safari guides in Africa. His knowledge and experience of Africa and its wildlife has led to him being chosen as one Kenya's honorary Game Wardens. Tristan has a deep understanding of the interaction between wildlife and man on horseback. After a glorious day on safari and around a bush fire at night there are few better story tellers in Africa.
Cindy Voorspuy
Cindy is one of Africa's top ranked women polo players. There isn't much she doesn't know about rearing, stabling, managing and riding horses in Kenya. At Deloraine she looks after over 80 horses in stables and paddocks around the farm, preparing them for Offbeat's mobile riding safaris. Guests staying at Deloraine are always made to feel 'at home' by Cindy and her family.
Piers Winkworth
Piers came out to Kenya to help Tristan and Cindy in early 2002 for a three month working holiday. He immediately fell in love with Africa and quickly the three months turned into nearly three years! In early 2005 he decided to 'get a bit more serious' and expanded Offbeat Safaris to cater for non-riding guests. As such he built Offbeat Mara Camp and Offbeat Meru Camp simultaneously and helped create the Offbeat Circuit of his two camps, plus Sosian and Deloraine. Piers lives full time in Kenya and spends his time split between his two 'homes in the bush'.
Jakob von Plessen
Born and raised in Argentina, Jakob is a highly proficient horseman. On any riding safari with Jakob you quickly appreciate he is an inspirational source of knowledge for Kenya's wildlife as well as being the perfect host. Jakob is fluent in German, Spanish, English and French. He spends most of the year in Kenya but when the rains come he heads back to Argentina to run his own riding safari company. He is rarely seen not wearing his traditional Argentinian 'boyna' hat.
Sean and Charlotte Outram
Born and bred in Kenya, Sean has always had a natural affinity with Laikipia. As the Sosian Ranch manager he has the difficult but fascinating task of balancing the various land management schemes at Sosian – cattle farming, wildlife, tourism, and cultural experiences.
His wife Charlotte has a passion for horses and runs the stables and riding safaris based at Sosian. Charlotte’s team provide the ultimate riding experience for both experienced riders or enthusiastic learners. In addition, Charlotte and her reservations team also run the Offbeat Safaris central reservations office - taking care of all bookings and ground handling queries.
Sean Flatt and Tanyth Mathews
Sean & Tanyth settled at Offbeat Meru in 2012, having returned from their own adventures. Tanyth has travelled around Southern and Eastern Africa and has a passion for exploring, however her roots are in Kenya and she is proud to call it home. Tanyth has a degree in Leisure and Sports Management; which she obtained in Cheltenham in 2009, and comes from a family background that has strong ties to both tourism and conservation. She is passionate about art, food and wildlife and loves spending time in the bush.
Born and bought up in Kenya, Sean doesn’t see himself being anywhere else. He obtained his degree in Environmental Sciences in Edinburgh, and after four years is happy to be home. Avid about the bush, he has travelled around Eastern and Southern Africa exploring its’ varied flora and fauna. A qualified KPSGA guide; Sean has a wealth of knowledge about Kenya’s History and loves nothing better than to go fishing. His passion for Kenya’s wilderness areas is contagious.
Simon Kenyon
Simon was born and brought up on his family farm in Laikipia, not far from Sosian. His knowledge of the bush, history and culture of Laikipia, and Kenya, is extensive. Having studied Zoology in the UK and travelled through South America, Simon returned to Kenya in 2012, spending his days guiding our guests the length and breadth of Sosian and beyond, creating adventure at every turn! Not only an excellent guide but also a proficient horseman, Simon will get you walking, riding, fishing, camping or tubing the river, and make every experience more memorable than the last!
Rosie Constant
Having been a part of Sosian since 2001 Rosie's role has grown into full time manageress of the lodge. Her genuine passion and enthusiasm is infectious and she understands the standards that are required to make every guest feel special and to take incredible memories home with them. Rosie is also a master in the kitchen and with a professional cookery course under her belt, guests will be utterly spoilt!
Katie Stewart
Born and raised in the UK, Katie has travelled extensively throughout her life. Since completing her degree at Newcastle University she spent time working on a ranch in Australia before coming to Kenya. After spending time working with horses in Kenya, Katie fell in love with the country and decided to stay. She has a real passion and admiration for the wildlife and the people and it is hard not to be inspired by her zeal and energy. She has previous experience working in lodges in Kenya and is dedicated to ensuring each guest is provided with an unforgettable stay in the Mara.
