Deloraine House
Play full video
Deloraine House is an exceptional example of Kenya's history, which has been preserved since the 1920's. With the beautiful house and gardens to explore, warm hospitality and Lake Nakuru just 45 minutes away, this is a perfect addition to any safari itinerary.
Safari elegance from a bygone era...
Deloraine House was built in the 1920's by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler. Deloraine must be one of the grandest examples of historical architecture in the country and is a unique hosted property, with half of Kenya’s history bottled up in it. The farm is set on the lower slopes of Londiani Mountain, which is a forest and bamboo shrouded extinct volcano, on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley. The house is run by the Voorspuy family who were well known for their Offbeat Riding Safaris.
Facilities
There are five rooms in the main house with a twin and a double/triple room downstairs, and two double/twin rooms and one double/triple room upstairs. All the rooms either have ensuite bathrooms or bathrooms just outside the bedroom.
Deloraine's Garden Cottage has three bedrooms, two of which are double rooms and one of which is a twin room. They share a bathroom with shower and bath on the corridor and look out over Deloraine's extensive gardens.
Experience & Activities
Just 45 minutes away is Lake Nakuru National Park. The park supports a wide diversity of flora and fauna, with flamingos (greater and lesser) and many other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including lion, leopard, white rhino and buffaloes, plus a variety of birds numbering nearly 450 species.
With over 60 horses based at Deloraine, mountain riding, cross country jumping and a full size polo pitch, this is an equestrian's heaven! Enjoy horse riding around the property, as well as a swimming pool, tennis court, and croquet lawn. The extensive mature gardens are perfect to relax in. You can also experience day trips to Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria, and Lake Baringo.

Cindy Voorspuy| Director
Cindy and her two grown-up children, Archie and Imogen, have called Deloraine home since 1993. Three years earlier, the Voorspuys established Offbeat Riding Safaris, a legacy that thrives as a successful business under new ownership. Deloraine remains a fantastic base for the safari horses and serves as Cindy's family home, where she warmly welcomes her guests.
Christine & Margaret| Chef & Housekeeper
There is not much that these two do not know about looking after our guests at Deloraine! Christine, the head cook is a genius in the kitchen, producing mouth-watering menus, whilst Margaret is in charge of the house and bedrooms. With exceptionally high standards the house always looks immaculate, but still maintains its relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Peter| Head Syce (Groom)
With over 60 horses at Deloraine, we have a team of 10 syces, led by our head man, Peter. Peter is a very skilled horseman as well as a farrier. Along with his team, he manages to keep the horses fit and healthy at all times. Not only do our horses go on safari but many also play polo and compete (show jumping, dressage & cross country) with Cindy, Archie & Imo, making for experienced, well schooled and well rounded horses.
